Translating Statecharts+Class Diagrams (SCCD) to the Discrete-Event System Specification (DEVS)

This paper presents a methodology for translating models in the SCCD formalism into the Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) formalism. SCCD, which combines Statecharts with Class Diagrams, was designed to visually model complex, event-driven systems with dynamic structure. The DEVS formalism is a modular discrete-event formalism with precise semantics, supported by powerful simulation tools. Our approach systematically maps SCCD constructs to DEVS models, leveraging SCCD’s intuitive design capabilities while enabling simulation and execution in DEVS. By addressing DEVS’s static structure limitation, we extend its applicability to dynamic systems, as an alternative to for example Dynamic Structure DEVS (DS-DEVS) [1]. Our translation is thoroughly tested and an example of balls bouncing in and out of an elevator is given.
