SEMSES: an IoT-based Sensing and Monitoring Solution for the Energy Sector

In the energy sector, Internet of Things (IoT) devices can sense, monitor, and actuate on different assets (e.g., equipment, vehicles, infrastructure, environment, workers) aiming at providing data towards building information to improve the value chain (from generation to end-user consumption) towards a more sustainable operation. This paper presents a work in progress within the Alliance for the Energy Transition (ATE) project, i.e., SEMSES, an IoT-based solution to monitor different assets and share monitored data using communication protocols relevant to the energy industry. SEMSES is designed with retrofitting and modularity in mind to support ATE addressing challenges related to the energy sector in Portugal.
