Real-time monitoring of distillation processes using cyclic voltammetry and surface plasmon resonance

This work aims to design and implement a COTS-based, efficient electronic system to monitor the phases of the distillation process in real time. The system integrates cyclic voltammetry with surface plasmon resonance (SPR), enabling precise detection of the onset and conclusion of each distillation stage. Sensors collect data that are transmitted via ESP32 to a Linux server running IoT tools (Node-RED, InfluxDB, and Grafana) for supervision and automatic adjustments. Preliminary results, based solely on the electrochemical sensor, indicated that high concentrations of sugarcane brandy significantly affect cyclic voltammetry plots. Calibration with an ascorbic acid solution highlighted consistent oxidation and reduction peaks, thereby validating the method. The system has proven to be effective for monitoring distilled beverages, demonstrating high sensitivity and precision. Future integrations with SPR and IoT will improve automation, establishing the method as a viable alternative for industrial quality control.
