A Review of Sensorless Rotor Initial Position Estimation for PMSM

The key to vector control of Permanent Magnetic Synchronous Machine (PMSM) lies in accurately obtaining the initial rotor position information, which is crucial for smooth motor startup and optimal load operation. This paper first analyzes the challenges associated with installing position sensors in motor systems and provides a comprehensive review of sensorless rotor initial position detection methods. Next, five rotor position detection methods based on high-frequency voltage injection are discussed, categorized by whether the injection signal is continuous or intermittent. Finally, the paper summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of current detection methods and identifies the future research hotspots in sensorless initial rotor position detection for Permanent Magnetic Synchronous Machine.
