Design and Optimization of Novel Wound-Field Flux-Switching Machine With Dual-Armature Structure

This paper proposes and analyzes a novel dual-armature wound-field flux-switching machine (DA-WFFSM), which integrates both stator and rotor armature windings within the conventional WFFSM structure. Firstly, the topological configuration and operating principle of DA-WFFSM are introduced. Then, the major design parameters such as split ratio, stator/rotor tooth thickness, and stator/rotor yoke thickness are optimized in order to enhance the machine's torque output. Furthermore, the electromagnetic performance of the optimized DA-WFFSM is compared with that of WFFSM. It demonstrates that the DA-WFFSM achieves 37% higher torque density and improved overload capability compared to the conventional WFFSM. Additionally, the DA-WFFSM exhibits higher efficiency and a higher rotor power factor, despite a relatively low stator power factor. The rotor back-EMF of DA-WFFSM contains significant third-order harmonics, which can be utilized for torque production. The proposed design enhances fault tolerance, space utilization, and overall electromagnetic performance, offering a promising alternative for highperformance electrical machine applications.
