A Double-Sided Control Strategy for Wireless Charging System Considering Eddy Current Loss

Wireless charging has been increasingly applied to powering the Autonomous underwater vehicles. To address the efficiency degradation caused by the eddy current loss in seawater, this paper proposes a double-sided control strategy (DCS) to enhance the transfer efficiency during battery charging. Unlike air-based applications, the eddy current effects in seawater couple the transmission characteristics of the charging system, making it challenging to track the maximum efficiency point or control output solely through a single variable or topology adjustment. The proposed DCS addresses these challenges by enabling maximum efficiency tracking, achieving the desired output and optimizing system tunning. A model predictive control method is employed to decouple and regulate the control variables. A 120W experimental prototype is constructed to prove the effectiveness of the proposed method.
