Sustainability in the Context of Remote Work in It Sector

Remote work effectively mitigates a substantial amount of expenses and energy consumption that are typically associated with physical office spaces. The sustainability benefits of working remotely are very tangible. The article discloses the findings of a study on the contributions made by remote employment in the IT sector towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. There is, however, a preliminary review of the literature first. The research questions contained in the paper are: how does remote work act to achieving Sustainable Development Goals? What are the reasons that make employees in the IT sector prefer a remote work environment? What significant aspects of the environment relate to sustainability in remote work? The survey was conducted among 150 employees of the IT sector in Kerala. The data obtained from the survey underwent statistical analysis. The COVID-19 pandemic has made remote work commonplace in the IT sector. Employees exhibit a preference for remote work on account of its timesaving benefits, work comfort, safety, and flexibility. The environmental factors that are most often cited concerning sustainability are the reductions in hazardous substance emissions from automobile exhaust fumes and the decrease in electricity consumption at office buildings.
