How Voice Quality Shapes a Speaker's Charismatic Impact – A Comparison of Three Languages

This study investigated the influence of voice quality on perceived charisma, controlling for the impact of other prosodic features. Results indicate that voice quality significantly contributes to perceived charisma across languages. Especially the level ofthefirstformant emerged as a key acoustic correlate. Cross-linguistic differences were also observed, with Danish charisma perception relying more on settings while German and Mandarin charisma changed with variation in voice-quality.
