Blue-Green Deployments for Smart Contracts

While many blockchains enforce that smart contracts are immutable, proxy design patterns allow interested developers to sidestep this restriction. As a result, complex smart contract-based applications are continuously evolving – and continuously risking introducing new attack vectors. In this work, we propose adopting the method of blue-green deployments to smart contracts to mitigate risks introduced by upgrading contracts. We outline a framework that provides the benefits of this deployment strategy using a local copy of the blockchain and the ability to replay transactions.
