Electromagnetic Interference of Unmanned-Aerial-Vehicle Motors on an Electromagnetic-Induction Sensor

The interference caused by the motors of an unmanned aerial vehicle on an electromagnetic-induction sensor (EMI) is investigated. Experimental measurements are performed to quantify the interference and to investigate its frequency content. The interference is primarily at the motor drive frequency and associated harmonics. The motors also emit broadband interference. The interference is shown to be very problematic for the EMI system and is challenging to remove with signal processing. Potential methods for mitigation of the interference are discussed.
