A GUI-Based System for Spinal Motion Tracking Using Inertial Measurement Units

Visualization of various anatomical systems has been a challenge due to the complex nature and computing power limitations. It is crucial for both medical practitioners and patients to understand data generated from various examinations and procedures as this provides them greater awareness and knowledge of their current conditions. Although, gamification and visualization methods are an increasing field of research, there are few studies that pertain to the development of such applications. The objective of this paper is to design a graphical user interface (GUI) that obtains orientation data from five IMU sensors and applies an interpolation algorithm to complete the visualization of the entire spinal column. A system usability scale (SUS) survey was deployed to identify gaps in the usability of the GUI and yielded an average score of 78.67. This score suggests that although the GUI has decent usability, there are still areas that can be improved to enhance user experience.
