A Hybrid Memristor-Schottky Diode Circuit for Threshold-Adjustable RF Power Detection

Recent studies are exploring novel electronic devices to revolutionize the telecoms sector in the era of 5 G and beyond. Harnessing memristor devices has showcased immense promise in this endeavor, where a wide variety of RF-centered devices are emerging in the last few years. In this work, drawing inspiration from energy harvesting applications, a hybrid circuit for RF power detection is designed and explored, harnessing the low-power operation of memristors and Schottky diodes, along with a circuit for automatic power on of the detector. The detector can be then shut off via an external input stimulus, which can also function as an electronically programmable threshold of detection for the circuit. Two architectures are explored and compared, namely 1 M 2 D and 1 M 1 D, offering promising results. The proposed detector demonstrates reliable operation for input power levels up to +4 dBm, maintaining consistent detection performance. Finally, further details on its architecture and prospective enhancements are discussed.
