Comparative Performance Analysis of MIMO VLC Communication Systems with M-CSK and M-QAM Modulation

In this paper, we propose the use of M-level color shift keying (M-CSK) modulation in 2 2 and 4 4 MIMO based VLC-OFDM communication systems. Comparative performance analysis of M-level quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM) and M-CSK modulations in MIMO-VLC-OFDM systems is performed. MIMO channel models from the literature 2 2 and 4 4 is used in the comparisons. From the obtained results, it is clear that in both 2 2 and 4 4 MIMO VLC communication systems, M-CSK modulation provides SNR gains between 3 and 7 dB higher than M-QAM modulation for low level modulations (4-CSK, 8-CSK, 4-QAM and 8-QAM), whereas the performance is very close for high level modulations (16-CSK and 16-QAM).
