Comparison of TDE and FDE Equalizers Used in ACO-OFDM Communication Systems

In this paper, we analyze the performance of the asymmetrically clipped optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (ACO-OFDM) waveform, the most widely studied waveform in visible light communication systems, in a multipath wireless optical channel environment. Time domain (TDE) and frequency domain (FDE) equalizers are used to equalize the wireless optical channel. From the computer simulation studies, it is observed that the performance of the TDE equalizer is better than the FDE equalizer at low level modulations, whereas the performance of the FDE is better than the TDE at high level modulations.
