Real Time Implementation of Field Oriented Control of SynRM Drive in FPGA

This paper presents the real-time implementation of Field Oriented Control (FOC) for a Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) drive using a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). By utilizing the inherent parallel architecture of FPGAs, multiple control tasks can be executed simultaneously, significantly enhancing the responsiveness and performance of the SynRM drive. Implementing FOC in an FPGA presents unique challenges, such as the need for precise timing and synchronization of control signals, which are critical for maintaining motor performance across varying operational conditions. This paper discusses these challenges in detail, including issues related to the digital implementation of the control algorithms, ADC/DAC interfacing, and the normalization of control values. This work highlights the pivotal role of precise control strategies and the benefits of FPGA technology in enhancing the performance of the SynRM drive across its entire operational range.
