Low-Power Emission Gate Driver Design with Programmable Pulse Widths and Enhanced Stability for Oxide TFT AMOLED Displays

A low-power programmable emission (EM) gate driver with enhanced stability is proposed for oxide TFT-based AMOLED displays. The proposed design features an improved dynamic inverter and a DC bootstrapping buffer, to eliminate shoot-through current and minimize clock signal loading, thereby reducing both dynamic and static power consumption. Furthermore, the series-connected two-transistor (STT) structure and the dual-negative voltage supply are used to enhance the EM circuit stability against threshold voltage variations (±4 V). For a typical UHD (3840 × 2160) display with 120 Hz refresh rate, the power consumption of 2160 EM drivers ranging from only 6.98 mW to 10.98 mW for different pulse widths, less than 1/3 of conventional EM driver designs.
