High-Efficiency Interrogator for FSBS Mechanical Vibrations in Optical Fibers

The interrogation of transversal acoustic mode resonances (TAMRs) in optical fibers has proven to be useful for sensing applications outside the cladding boundaries [1]. TAMRs are excited by stimulated forward Brillouin scattering (FSBS). Conventional detection methods are based on optical interferometry, requiring tens of meters of fiber since the interaction is rather weak. Previous studies have pointed the possibility of using optical resonators for tackling this drawback [2].
