Coupling Between Lossy Resonators: A New Approach Towards Large-Area Single-Mode Lasing

Large-area single-mode lasing in a semiconductor platform is a an important quest in photonics, as these devices have the potential to supplant the bulky gas and solid-state devices. In recent years, a number of cavity designs where developed including photonic crystal surface emitting lasers [1] and topological lasers [2]. In this study, we take a different approach by using the coupling between high-loss resonators. The resonators are SiN microrings containing colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) with a diameter of 10 μm.
