Evaluation of the Protective Performance of the Lightning Arrester Installation to Reduce Lightning Outage Rate on 150 kV Transmission Lines

This study aims to evaluate the performance of the Transmission Line Arrester (TLA) installation on the Gilimanuk - Celukan Bawang - Pemaron transmission line, focusing on the reduction of disturbances caused by lightning. Lightning-induced disturbances are one of the primary causes of outages in transmission systems, which can disrupt the stability of electricity supply. In this study, Vaisala lightning strike data and performance data of the TLAs installed in the previous paper were collected and analyzed to assess their impact on the frequency of lightning-related disturbances. The methodology employed includes statistical analysis of disturbance data before and after TLA installation, as well as simulations to predict TLA performance under various weather conditions. The results indicate that the installation of TLA significantly reduces the number of lightning-related disturbances, thereby enhancing the reliability of the transmission system. These findings provide recommendations for further optimization in the design and placement of TLA, as well as important contributions to the development of lightning protection systems in electrical transmission lines in the future.
