Application of BIM Technology in Construction Industry for Modeling, Quantity Takeoff, and Scheduling Simulation

The success of a project is closely related to how the project is planned and implemented during the construction period. Sometimes, there is a rework in the field due to errors in translating images and information. The existence of complex information, varied variables and a high potential for human error requires effective project management. Building Information Modeling (BIM) helps construction actors manage construction projects by increasing the effectiveness between the parties involved. This research is quantitative to make a 3D model of the building structure (pile cap, sloof, columns, beams and floor plates), calculating the Quantity Takeoff (volume) of concrete and rebar materials in the project and making a scheduling simulation. The applications used to support this BIM implementation are Autodesk Revit (creating 3D modelling and QTO calculations) and Naviswork for scheduling simulations. The data used is project auction data such as plan drawings, concrete and rebar plan volumes, and project time schedules. The results show that Autodesk Revit can model 3D buildings and calculate quantity take-off. The quantity take-off calculation of concrete and rebar materials using Autodesk Revit resulted in a lower total volume than calculations with conventional approaches (Excel) of 8.7% and 16.5%. The simulation results in 3D form show that using BIM Naviswork can help monitor the work progress between the design and the field according to the planned time based on the 3D model so that it looks more like real-time.
