A Combined Energy Supply System for Resident H-ROV

Remotely operated vehicles (ROV) is a kind of cable-operated underwater robot, and the umbilical cable provides all the power source for ROV. There are problems such as high dependence of ROV on umbilical cable, thick cable diameter, high water resistance and no emergency backup power. This paper introduces a new type of Resident Hadal ROV (H-ROV) developed by Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, which adopts the combined power supply technology of umbilical cable and ROV's own batteries and energy management control strategy to enhance ROV's movement flexibility and operating radius, so that the resident ROV has high power, long distance, and strong operation capability. And the validity and reliability of its design has been verified in sea trials
