Flexible Motion Sensors for Real-Time Monitoring and Assessment of Motor Diseases

When used over an extended period, these flexible motion sensors will advance our ability to investigate motor disease markers that progress in neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or multiple scleroses. These disorders significantly impact the quality of life of the subjects, and the early diagnosis and followup of these disorders are crucial for their effective management and treatment. This involves wearing lightweight, flexible motion-tracked sensors on the body to track body movement patterns & activity levels throughout time. These sensors will incorporate the most recent algorithms to analyze data in real time and detect changes in movement patterns indicative of the occurrence or aggravation of the motor disease. Data acquired through this technology may drastically enhance motor disease diagnosis precision and prognosis-tracking capabilities. It enables real-time evaluation with proven evidence for the clinicians and customized patient care plans. The data we collect will also become part of the research field and provide us with a better understanding of these diseases, which may help produce new treatment solutions.
