Regional Division Optimization of Network-on-Chip Based on 2D Mesh

With the number of cores and nodes in networks-on-chips (NoCs) growing, the node fault occurrence probability is increasing. In order to reduce the probability, the effect of three regional divisions for constructed $8 \times 82 \mathrm{D}$ Mesh NoC model can be explored based on fault distribution. After it, for these three regional division methods, XY or odd-XY-even-YX (O-XY-E-YX) routing algorithm can be adopted to distribute the task traffic for obtaining the optimal division method. Based on Gem5 simulator, congestion distribution and average network latency can be simulated in detail. Simulator results show that among these division methods, five-partition method can achieve the compromise between congestion distribution and network latency, which can reduce the network latency to improve the whole throughput while relaxing the congestion of central region to decrease the traffic fault. Compared XY algorithm, O-XY-E-YX algorithm may reduce the network latency, which can be helpful to improve network load balanced, saturation throughput and network latency in whole mesh.
