Lightweight Secure RFID Authentication Protocol Using Permutation Operations for IoT Devices

The advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) has dramatically increased the demand for secure and efficient authentication protocols, particularly within resource constrained environments. However, with the proliferation of IoT, one key enabling technology namely Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems is faced with various security threats like replay attacks, eavesdropping, or unauthorized access. In order to overcome this paper presents a novel Secure RFID Authentication Protocol in accordance with Permutation Generator (SRAPPP). This protocol improves security by dynamically generating precession fresh permutation-based challenges to authenticated sessions, largely halting eavesdropping due to predictable communication patterns between RFID tags and readers. Designed to be lightweight, SRAPPG is built for IoT devices with minimal computational capacity. The proposed protocol is carefully assessed using formal methods, simulations, and real-world experiments, and it has been shown to be resilient against common RFID security attacks while maintaining efficiency. A comparative analysis with RFID authentication protocols shows that SRAPPG has better security and performance, which makes it applicable in secure communications of IoT.
