5G NR Coverage and Capacity Planning at 26 GHz: Insights from Urban Micro Model Simulation

Indonesia is actively advancing towards the 5 G era, a technology that not only delivers high-speed connectivity but also supports complex applications. The purpose of this study is to use a coverage and Capacity Based Planning approach to develop a 5G New Radio (NR) in the Mampang Prapatan District. The research utilizes a 26 GHz frequency with a 100 MHz bandwidth. Simulations were performed with network planning software and applied a line-of-sight (LOS) propagation model. The simulation adhered to the 3GPP TR 38.901 standard, specifically using the Urban Micro (UMi) model. The simulation results indicate that $\mathbf{1 9} \mathbf{g N o d e B}$ sites are required in accordance with Coverage Based Planning, while Capacity Based Planning suggests the need for 40 sites. The parameter histogram shows that the average SS-RSRP from the simulation is -93.57 dBm, and the average SS-SINR is 1.45 dB. These analysis results suggest that the 5 G NR signal strength in “Good” category and signal quality in the area fall within the “Normal” category, making it feasible to implement 5G networks in this region.
