Applications of Integrated Circuit in Diabetes Management: Advancing Healthcare through Intelligent Devices

This study investigates the application of Integrated Circuit (IC)-based wearable health monitoring devices in managing diabetes, with a specific focus on Saudi Arabia. The research centres on two specific devices: continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems and automated insulin delivery (AID) systems. These devices leverage IC technology to enable real-time tracking of critical health parameters, improving diagnostic accuracy and facilitating personalized care. The study adopts a qualitative methodology, utilizing secondary data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). This study evaluates diabetes management effectiveness through four key indicators: prevalence rates, mortality rates, economic burden, and health outcomes related to diabetes complications. CGMs and AID systems play a crucial role in reducing undiagnosed diabetes, enhancing glucose control, and lowering risks of complications such as nephropathy and coronary artery disease. Preliminary findings indicate that these devices enhance early detection and intervention, reduce hospital visits, and align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 healthcare objectives. The research also highlights the scalability of these technologies and their potential to address resource constraints in the healthcare system. By focusing on IC-driven solutions, this study bridges advanced technology with practical applications, offering innovative pathways for chronic disease management in Saudi Arabia.
