IoT-Based Pet Care System

The development of IoT technology has significantly impacted the pet care industry by offering smart solutions that will improve pets’ well-being and simplify pet owners’ daily chores. As traditional pet care tasks such as feeding, providing water, and managing litter boxes are often time-consuming and exhausting. Moreover, there is a lack of integrated mobile applications that is capable of unifying all pet care functionalities into a single platform. Currently, pet owners often need to install multiple apps to manage different devices which can be confusing and inconvenient. This project aims to develop an IoT-based prototype system that includes an automatic pet feeder, smart water dispenser, and litter box monitoring system. The automatic feeder ensures precise food portions based on the pet’s nutritional needs. The smart water dispenser was designed like a cat water fountain to ensures continuous access to fresh water. The litter box system monitors the duration of urination and defection to help detect irregularities that may indicate health issues. The information collected from these devices such as food intake, water consumption, and litter box usage can be monitored through a single mobile application. The device is built using various sensors such as load cells, ultrasonic sensors, moisture level sensors, and an RFID reader, all controlled by an ESP32 microcontroller known for its Wi-Fi capability and processing power. This integrated system aims to enhance pet care by ensuring proper nutrition and hydration, and to detect any health concerns. While the current prototype is functional, future improvements using more reliable sensors could further increase its efficiency and accuracy in monitoring pet health.
