Towards Ultra-Reliable 6G Communication: A Novel Architecture for End-to-End Redundancy

The impending evolution towards the next generation of mobile networks necessitates robust support for a diverse range of services with stringent requirements, particularly Enhanced Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communication (eURLLC). While the 3GPP 5G System lays a foundational groundwork, its URLLC mechanisms primarily focus on network-centric approaches, leaving gaps in end-to-end reliability. This paper addresses these limitations by introducing an enhanced Make-Before-Break-Reliability (eMBBR) mechanism, accommodating Radio Access Network (RAN) failures, and optimizing redundancy in communication paths. Leveraging the RRC_INACTIVE state in 5G, novel techniques are presented for redundant registration and communication session establishment, aiming to mitigate bandwidth constraints. The proposed framework integrates interactions among User Equipment (UE), network entities, and application servers, thereby envisaging the realization of ultra-reliable 6G networks. An empirical evaluation of the proposed mechanism and a comparison against the existing 3GPP mechanisms show that the eMBBR mechanism alleviates bandwidth constraints while providing high reliability.
