An Efficient Dual-Band Micropower Rectifier Based on Voltage Boosting Technique

This letter proposes a dual-band high-efficiency micropower rectifier for wireless energy harvesting (WEH). A dual-band voltage boosting network with high voltage gain is designed to simultaneously enhance the voltage on the diode at two frequency bands, aiming to reduce the impact of the built-in potential of the diode and achieve high rectifying efficiency in low power density environments. It also helps facilitate the following dual-band impedance matching for compact size. The theoretical analysis of the voltage gain introduced by the voltage boosting network is performed. A rectifier operating at 1.6 and 2.45 GHz has been designed, fabricated, and measured for validation. Measurement results showed that even when the input power is only −20 dBm, the maximum RF–dc conversion efficiency can still achieve up to 38.7% and 25.8% at 1.6 and 2.45 GHz, respectively. Compared with the state-of-the-art works, the proposed dual-band rectifier exhibits advantages of high efficiency and compact size.
