Optimized Acceleration and Braking for Dual Motor All-Wheel-Drive Electric Vehicles

This paper studies the transient longitudinal performance of electric vehicles incorporating an electric drive unit on both axles. Elementary physics-based models are used to develop optimized strategies for commanding aggressive acceleration and braking events, accounting for electrical and traction limits that determine feasible axle forces. Applications of such optimization include benchmarking candidate vehicle architectures and tuning their controllers. The proposed formulation provides a flexible foundation that reveals the influence of various parameters and allows consideration of powertrain component modifications.
