Totem Pole Converters with Robust Proportional-Resonant Control Mechanism for Two-Wheeler EV Charging

This paper presents the design, implementation, and performance evaluation of fundamental Totem Pole power factor correction converter topologies tailored for electric twowheeler onboard charging applications. The converter topologies were investigated by employing a Robust Proportional-Resonant (RPR) control strategy, enhancing efficiency and stability across varying operating conditions. The novelty in RPR includes a Feedforward Disturbance Compensation and Adaptive Gain Scheduling mechanism that dynamically adjusts their outputs by mitigating disturbances. Comprehensive simulations were conducted at a power level of 4 kW. These simulations focused on critical aspects such as output voltage regulation, input voltage variability, and switching frequency adjustments. The converters were evaluated for their performance in alignment with the requirements of the two-wheeler onboard charging systems, including in-phase voltage and current alignment, harmonic minimization, and control signal stability. The results indicate that the Interleaved Totem Pole converter with four MOSFETs and two diodes demonstrated superior efficiency and power quality, making it the most suitable choice for this application.
