Development of a Series Hybrid Electric Propulsion System for AAM and Turbo-Electric Mode Test

Korea-funded Research Institute is developing a hybrid electric propulsion system (HEPS) technology for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). The goal of the system is to provide the power and thrust required from intercity travel between Seoul and Busan. Then, each main component has been developed to meet the requirements of the intercity mission, and has been integrated for HEPS. In this study, prior to the final integrated ground test, a turbo-electric mode test was conducted to verify the compatibility between a turbo-generator and two electric engines and to confirm to be technically feasible that it can provide a base load throughout the entire mission, which is the major role of the turbo-generator. The results were satisfied with the design intent.
