Democracy in Volumes: Generation of Equal/Uniform Intensity High-Order Bessel Beams Using a Logarithmic Axicon and a Vortex Phase Plate

We propose and demonstrate a scheme producing high-order Bessel beams of equal/uniform intensity within a set range by illuminating a logarithmic axicon with a vortex phase plate generated light beam. This results in hollow/tubular light beams (whose diameter depends on the vortex topological order) of constant intensity along the optical axis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first realization of homogenization of tubular or hollow diffraction free beams. The technique can find applications in microscopy, particle and atom manipulation/trapping and laser micromachining.
