Expansion of Field Attenuation During Synchronous Speed Control Machine with Permanent Magnets in the Second Zone

The present paper delves into a method aimed at expanding the range of speed control in a permanent magnet synchronous motor. Specifically, it focuses on attenuating the magnetic flux within the second operating region of the drive system. To solve the problem of increasing stator current and deteriorating energy characteristics with increasing rotational speed, a two-step control algorithm was proposed, which includes additional inductors in the motor circuit. A mathematical simulation of the drive's operation under various control configurations was conducted. The integration of inductors enabled a reduction in current fluctuations by approximately 15-20%, while also augmenting the maximum speed of the motor by up to 25%, compared to conventional control approaches. The findings of numerical analysis were validated through experiments conducted on a physical electric drive that explored the impact of additional inductors on system stability. The experiment showed a reduction in fluctuations and an increase in efficiency in the drive in the second region of control. The implementation of the proposed technique is recommended for industrial applications involving a wide range of speed regulation, such as in metalworking machinery. The developed algorithm allows not only for an increase in maximum motor speed, but also reduces the burden on power electronics, resulting in improved overall energy efficiency. These findings confirm the promising nature of this approach and its suitability for use in electric drives that operate under varying loads and demanding dynamic conditions.
