Trends in the Power Electronics Development

This article identifies the main trends in the development of modern power electronics. The main task of power electronics is to reduce energy loss during transmission. A study of the total number of publications worldwide has shown that this field is growing rapidly. In the last 20 years, the number of publications has increased by almost 8 times. Modern technologies from other technical areas are being used to improve power devices performance. It is stated that the development of power electronics proceeds in three main directions. Advancements in electronic materials science are enabling the transition to a new component base and novel cooling methods. Promising materials for power electronics devices include cubic boron nitride, gallium oxide, and diamond. The use of artificial intelligence is accelerating the design process and optimizing control and monitoring strategies. However, at the same time, information security challenges are becoming increasingly significant. The expansion of the power electronic devices applications provide a cross-influence between various fields This leads to new scientific challenges.
