Relationship between ICT Use Profile and Academic Achievement: Evidence from PISA 2022 Data

PISA 2022 developed a comprehensive information and communication technology (ICT) framework and finally applied it during the COVID-19 global pandemic when ICT was implemented widely in education. This study explored the latent profiles of ICT use among U.S. students in PISA 2022 and their relationship to academic achievement. Two profiles were identified by latent profile analysis: the Moderate ICT user Profile (79.7%) and the Active ICT user Profile (20.3%). Students in the Moderate ICT user Profile had better academic achievement in three core domains (mathematics, reading, and science) than students in the Active ICT user Profile. This study analyzed the characteristics of students’ ICT use in the U.S. and the relationship between ICT use and academic achievement from a person-centered perspective.
