Developing Science and Technology in Rural Areas Using Remote Experiments. The Experience of Project R3: Rural, Remote and Real

The present work shows how to improve the scientific knowledge of the youngest students in rural areas. The work describes to what extent rural schools have fewer resources to develop the STEM competences of their students than urban schools, and how to alleviate this through educational technology, specifically through remote experimentation. The paper describes the Project R3: Rural, Remote and Real, which has been implemented over the last five years in rural schools in Spain, describing its (didactic) objectives, (technological) tools and (collaborative) methodologies in such a way that they can be replicated by other countries. The main objective of this work is to allow the interested researchers to replicate the project in other countries and schools.
