Fiber-Integrated Polarization Converter Based on Metasurface

In this study, we proposed an all-dielectric fiber-integrated polarization converter. The metasurface structure was composed of silicon antennas by leveraging the integration of the fiber and metasurface. Unlike most current meta-devices that are typically confined to manipulating light in free space, the proposed fiber-metasurface device has silicon antennas that are arranged radially along the tapered single-mode fiber. Polarization conversion can be achieved by integrating a metasurface into the waist region of the fibers. The simulations confirmed that the proposed fiber-integrated metasurface polarization converter effectively converted the incident transverse electric (TE)00 mode into the transverse magnetic (TM)00 mode and achieved a peak polarization conversion efficiency (PCE) of 89.84%. Moreover, the device maintained a conversion efficiency of over 80% across a wide wavelength range of 1.51– $1.73~\mu $ m. This study can significantly contribute to fiber-optic applications in communication and sensing.
