A Novel Lattice Boltzmann Based Electromagnetic Solver for Efficient Evaluation of Capacitor Layout and Busbar Structure in Power Electronics

The parasitic parameters of busbars determine the dynamic performance of power electronic converters, driving an urgent need for efficient evaluation methods targeting capacitor layouts and busbar structures optimization. To overcome the computational efficiency limitations of conventional finite-element analysis (FEA), this article proposes a lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) based electromagnetic solver that achieves both rapid and precise busbar performance evaluation. For capacitor layout optimization, the solver computes time varying electromagnetic fields coupled with double pulse test (DPT) circuits, demonstrating 40% faster computation speed than FEA while maintaining <5% relative error in voltage overshoot prediction under 800 V busbar voltage and 600 A operating current. Furthermore, a stray inductance evaluation method by LBM is developed for specialized busbar, achieving <7% impedance calculation error across three current loop. Experimental validation through DPTs and impedance extraction confirms the model accuracy. Results show that the proposed method significantly reduces computation time without compromising precision, providing an efficient and reliable evaluation tool for capacitor layout optimization and busbar design in power electronics systems.
