IoT-Enabled Solar-Based Smart Street Lighting System Using ESP32 and Cloud Platforms

The rapid development of city infrastructure demands efficient and sustainable city lighting. Standard street lighting is not efficient because it is stationary and lacks intelligent control systems. This paper proposes a solar-powered sensor-based smart street lighting system with an ESP32 microcontroller for real-time and cloud-based monitoring. LDR, Infra Red (IR), and voltage sensors are employed in adaptive lighting considering environmental and situation-dependent factors. The system is also integrated with ThingSpeak and Blynk platforms for mobile access and real-time visualization of data. Experimental results of test reveal huge power saving without sacrificing lighting efficiency and with enhanced user control, justifying the system as a scalable model for smart cities.
