Real-Time Saline Level and Vital Signs Monitoring Using IoT and Arduino

In modern healthcare systems, continuous monitoring of intravenous (IV) saline levels is crucial for patient safety and efficient treatment. This project proposes an IoTbased automatic saline monitoring system using an Arduino microcontroller to address the common issue of delayed saline replacement, which can lead to air embolism or other critical complications. The system integrates a load cell sensor to measure the weight of the saline bottle and detect the remaining fluid level, a heartbeat sensor for real-time monitoring of the patient's pulse, and a temperature sensor for body temperature tracking. These sensors are interfaced with an Arduino board, which processes the data and displays it on a $16 \times 2$ LCD screen. To enhance connectivity and remote monitoring capabilities, the system employs a NodeMCU (ESP8266) module that transmits real-time data to the cloud using the Ubidots IoT platform. When the saline level drops below a pre-defined threshold, the system triggers an alert through a buzzer and sends notifications to healthcare providers via the IoT interface. This automation not only reduces the workload of medical staff but also ensures timely intervention, improving patient safety and treatment outcomes. The proposed system is cost-effective, easy to implement, and scalable for large-scale hospital environments.
