Design and Simulation Analysis of a Novel Bidirectional Solid-State Switch Based DC Circuit Breaker

the solid-state DC circuit breaker based on power electronic devices has the advantages of short action time, long service life, etc., and has a wide range of application scenarios in the fault protection of medium and low voltage DC power grids. In order to avoid heavy losses caused by short-circuit current, this paper designs a solid-state DC circuit breaker based on IGBT and diode. The current branch realizes bidirectional current flow through the diode full-bridge and IGBT series structure, the buffer branch adopts RC series structure to suppress overvoltage, and the energy absorption branch adopts energy absorption arrester to absorb energy. The buffer branch and the energy absorption branch are arranged outside the diode bridge, which effectively reduces the voltage stress of the diode during the breaking process. The parameter design method of the key components of each branch is given. Finally, the simulation is carried out in PSCAD/ EMTDC, which proves the effectiveness of the design.
