Optimizing Vehicle-to-Grid Integration (V2G) Using a Controllable Bidirectional Charger

This study focuses on the development, modelling, and evaluation and performance evaluation of a novel approach to Vehicle to Grid (V2G) integration. The paper introduces an optimized method utilizing a controllable bidirectional electric vehicle charger, specifically designed to enhance interaction with a smart grid energy management system (EMS). The methodology high-lights the creation of effective unidirectional and bidirectional energy exchange between the power grid and electric vehicles (EVs), yielding benefits like energy storage, peak demand shaving, and greater utilization of renewable energy. The design includes the development of supervisory control algorithms for precise energy exchange as well as the optimization of passive and active charger parts for energy savings and enhanced reliability. The operational suitability of the charger model is validated by simulations and experiments, showing its support for current grid and EMS requirements. The results indicate improved performance of energy exchange, enhanced system stability, and readiness to respond to the changing grid needs. This research illustrates the feasibility and usefulness of infrastructure with controllable bidirectional chargers at homes and business premises, which would foster the development of V2G systems in smart grids of the future.
