Improving Children's Reading and Writing Abilities by Utilizing Augmented Reality

When children begin their early education, it is crucial for them to learn the alphabet and develop word formation skills. During this stage, not all children are fluent in reading and writing. Some children may learn at a slower pace, while others may experience health issues related to the brain, such as dyslexia. In a study we conducted in Cipanas, Cianjur Regency, West Java, we discovered that several fourth-grade elementary school students were not yet proficient in reading and writing. We aimed to highlight the importance of supporting individuals with dyslexia. Our research explored various theories, concepts, and designs for developing Augmented Reality (AR) applications that could motivate children to practice reading and writing. To enhance children's reading skills, we proposed creating a mobile learning application that utilizes AR technology. Through AR, dyslexic students can learn to read the alphabet and improve their writing skills. Additionally, this study compares traditional learning methods with AR-based approaches for teaching reading and writing to students with dyslexia. The results of our experiments indicate that AR significantly facilitates the learning process for dyslexic students compared to traditional educational methods.
