Propose the 6R Process for Research Projects, Start-Up and Digital Transformation Adaptation

The software development life cycle (SDLC) has evolved with at least 20 processes, nine Plan-Driven processes, ten ones belonging to the Agile method and one brand-new DevOps process in 54 years due to the needs of specific project characteristics. Nevertheless, they do not fully fit in with three specific subjects, including research projects, startup customers or companies who want to catch up with the digital transformation, so-called RSD. For instance, traditional taxi companies that use radio-booking management are being competed and replaced swiftly by mobile-app mobility services such as Grab and Uber because there is no such process to adapt. While conducting academic research projects in the lab, we figured out a new approach to help these subjects overcome this issue. By combining the academic research activities with the Business Model Canvas, we build a novel SDLC process that can help the development team think out of the box and include new important factors for the development and operation strategies: Remain; Request, Replace, Remove; Rebirth; Review. Thus, this novel process is called the 6 R process. While developing it, we create new steps, roles, documents, measures, and metrics based on our best practices in the RSD project type. In the future, we will conduct studies to see how teams and companies use the $6 R$ in the workplace by interviewing and taking surveys.
