Low Current Ripple High-Boost Ratio Resonant Converter for Vehicle-Integrated PV Modules

In vehicle-integrated photovoltaics (VIPV) systems, an isolated dc/dc converter is needed to connect the low-voltage rooftop PV panel to the high-voltage battery, requiring a high step-up ratio and low input current ripple. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a high-boost ratio interleaved quasi-resonant with single-stage operation and minimal component count. The interleaved current-fed structure enhances voltage gain while maintaining low PV-side current ripple. Unlike conventional full-resonant converters that rely on complex half-bridge or full-bridge architectures, the proposed quasi-resonant topology employs partial resonance with a single low-side switch, simplifying control and reducing costs. Resonance between the transformer leakage inductor and the resonant capacitor across the MOSFET enables zero-voltage switching (ZVS) on the primary side and zero-current switching (ZCS) on the secondary diodes. Additionally, the secondary-side resonant capacitor contributes to higher voltage gain. The converter achieves soft switching benefits with low current ripple, making it particularly suitable for VIPV applications. A 299 kHz, 700 W prototype was built and tested across various loads with 18 V input and 800 V output, achieving a peak efficiency of 95.56%.
