Optimizing Three-Phase AC Induction Motors for Battery Electric Vehicles: A MATLAB/Simulink Approach

This research investigates the viability of using three-phase AC induction motors (ACIMs) in battery electric vehicles (BEVs) as an alternative to permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs). Using MATLAB/Simulink, we simulate motor control strategies such as Field-Oriented Control (FOC) and Direct Torque Control (DTC) to assess torque behavior, speed response, and energy efficiency. The results demonstrate that ACIMs can achieve competitive performance with reduced reliance on rare-earth materials, making them a cost-effective and sustainable solution. This study contributes to EV drivetrain optimization and supports the transition to greener mobility solutions.
