Design of a Slot-Antenna for RFID Reader Applications

A slot-based microstrip antenna intended as an RFID reader is presented in the article. In this ever-evolving world, compact antennas in microwave frequency range are essential. The suggested design has a dimension of 45.5 × 45.5 × 1.6 mm³ and is composed of a modified square slot (with three additional slots). It operates between the range of 2.26 to 2.59 GHz with a maximum reflection coefficient of −38.06 dB at 2.42 GHz. Additionally, it radiates more than 96% of the input power throughout the operating frequency range having 3 dBi peak gain at 2.42 GHz. All these factors, along with a read-range of 5.2 cm, contribute towards the usage of the antenna as an RFID reader.
