Tuning PID Controllers Parameters of the DC Motor with Genetic Algorithm

Direct current motors are widely used in practice for variable-speed drive applications. Depending on the requirements DC motor speed control systems can be implemented with or without current feedback. In this paper the system is considered as a multi-loop and genetic algorithm is applied for tuning the speed PI controller and current PI controller. The transient response of the system are with good quality in terms of overshoot and settling time. The tuning of controllers in the multi-loop system can be performed easily and in compliance with the constraints on the control signal and armature current. The optimization-based controller tuning methods can also be applied to other multi-loop systems.
