Fault Tree Reliability Analysis of Solar-Powered Pump Systems

This paper presents a comprehensive Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to assess the reliability of solar-powered pump systems, which are increasingly used in off-grid and remote areas for water supply and irrigation. The study adopts a topdown, deductive approach to identify and analyze the root causes of system failures, focusing on both individual component faults and their interactions within the overall system. Key subsystems such as photovoltaic (PV) panels, inverters, controllers, and the pump unit are modeled using fault trees to evaluate their contribution to system unreliability. The analysis highlights critical failure paths and quantifies the probability of system-level failures under various operating conditions. By constructing and integrating multiple fault trees, the paper provides a detailed reliability assessment, offering insights into design improvements and maintenance strategies to enhance system performance and reliability.
